Northern Trust Donates More Than $14 Million in 2010
Corporate Philanthropy benefits 1,775 organizations worldwide
CHICAGO, March 15, 2011 —
Northern Trust Corporation announced today that it awarded approximately $14.2 million in contributions to nonprofit organizations worldwide in 2010. Approximately 80 percent of Northern Trust donations focused on social welfare and educational services for low- and moderate-income families. Additionally, Northern Trust partners across the globe contributed nearly 200,000 volunteer hours to nonprofit and non-governmental organizations."Northern Trust looks for opportunities to support communities around the world where we do business, from China to Chicago," Northern Trust Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Frederick H. Waddell said. "Each year, we expand our horizons in identifying needs and responding with time, talent or resources. In 2010, for example, Northern Trust partners in offices as far away as Singapore pitched in to deliver an impressive response to the earthquake in Haiti - a total of nearly $600,000 in employee and corporate donations to the Red Cross for Haitian relief efforts."
Other organizations benefiting from Northern Trust's 2010 support include:
- Christel House: Located in Bangalore, India, Christel House is a free-of-charge school for children from the most underprivileged backgrounds. Northern Trust's support helps the organization fulfill its goal of ending the cycle of poverty through education.
- The United Way of Metropolitan Chicago: Northern Trust and its employees raised more than $3 million during Northern Trust's 2010 United Way Campaign. Northern Trust is the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago's No. 1 corporate contributor.
- CLIC Sargent: Northern Trust partners in London devoted both funds and volunteer hours for CLIC Sargent, a UK-based charity for children with cancer. Northern Trust assisted in the 'Home from Home' project that provides families free accommodations close to pediatric oncology centers.
