Michael Tan
Michael Tan manages the foreign exchange operations and balance sheets of The Northern Trust Company in the Asia-Pacific region and ensures compliance in trading activities within guidelines and policies as provided for by Singapore and U.S. regulators. The Singapore dealing room provides foreign exchange and money market services for investment managers and custody clients and is an active participant in inter-bank foreign exchange and money market trading activities.
Under Michael's leadership in the past 11 years, Northern Trust's Singapore Global FX team has become recognized as the leading FX services provider for Asia-Pacific investment managers and custody clients as polled by leading publications such as AsiaMoney and Global Investor. In the same time, the Singapore Branch balance-sheet has also grown significantly.
Michael is a member of the Bank's APAC leadership team, a non-voting member of ABOC and a member of the Singapore Executive Committee / Incident Command Team for BCP (Business Continuity Plan).
Prior to joining Northern Trust, Michael was Assistant Treasurer at Commerzbank (1982-1990) and Treasurer at Banca Commerciale Italiana (1990-1996) in Singapore. He began his banking career in 1979 with Citibank's Singapore Treasury and has to-date, 28 years of trading experience in the financial markets.
