Joanne C. Stringer “Joanie” is the Managing Director of Northern Trust’s Personal Financial Services in Washington, D.C.
Prior to being appointed Managing Director of PFS Washington D.C. Joanie was the Managing Director of the Connecticut business. Before assuming that role, Joanie served as the head of business development for the Nordic Region (Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark) in C&IS, London. She also helped open the office in Stockholm, Sweden.
Before going to London, she was responsible for business development for Personal Financial Services (PFS) in New York as the Wealth Strategist, and she acted as the PFS Northeast Regional Marketing Director covering New York, Connecticut, Delaware and Massachusetts. She also helped expand Northern Trust’s footprint into this Region by helping to open all four offices.
Prior to New York, Stringer was in Northern Trust Global Investments as a Product Manager for Northern Trust’s Hedge Fund of Funds in Chicago, and she was a portfolio manager in Northern Trust's Personal Investments Management Group, responsible for managing multiple portfolios for high net-worth individuals. Stringer joined Northern Trust in 1998.
Stringer received a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a major in Economics and an M.B.A. with concentrations in Finance, Economics and Entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago. She studied abroad at the London School of Economics in 1995 and 2002. She studied at American University’s Washington Semester Program while interning for Senator Connie Mack, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee. She is a CFA Charterholder, member of the CFA Institute, and the Washington CFA Society. She sits on the Board of Trustees of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She is a member of the Economic Club of Washington, DC, TARA, Women Corporate Directors, and Junior League of Washington. She also volunteers at the Red Cross and is part of the Red Cross Tiffany Circle.
