Is it safe to use Private Passport?
Yes. There are several levels of security. After enrolling, you will be assigned a user ID and a security code. The security code must be personalized by you upon your first use of Private Passport. You can also change your code any time you wish while online. Additionally, Northern Trust requires 128 bit encryption when accessing account information through Private Passport®.
What are the requirements to use Private Passport?
Aside from an account with Northern Trust or one of our affiliates, you need a computer, an Internet Service Provider (ISP), and a secure browser that supports 128 bit encryption.
You will have the best results using Internet Explorer version 7, or Firefox version 3x or Safari 3x. To upgrade your browser use one of the following links:

Encryption allows secure transmission of information via the Internet by using a mathematical formula to scramble data. The higher the number of encryption the more secure the transmission of data. Northern Trust requires the use of 128 bit encryption, currently the strongest level of encryption available.
