To support the increasingly complex needs of ultra-high net worth families and their family offices and foundations, Northern Trust is expanding its global family offices team in London with two new appointments.
John Elder has been appointed to the newly created role of managing director and senior investment advisor, multi-manager solutions.
Elder will advise family offices and related family foundations on the creation, implementation and oversight of complex investment programs and solutions. These include offering advice on strategic and tactical asset allocation, assisting in the development of investment policy for targeted asset class solutions and support with external manager search, selection and oversight across traditional and alternative strategies.
Prior to joining Northern Trust, Elder advised on and implemented business strategy, governance and best practices for family offices and institutional investors and has also served as a non-executive director on the boards of various investment funds. During his career, he has worked at Mellon Family Office Services and Ernst & Young Investment Consulting. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
Jonathan Lidster has been hired as a senior wealth strategist responsible for developing and deepening relationships with both existing and prospective clients, as well as increasing the awareness of Northern Trust's specialist wealth management solutions across EMEA.
Lidster was previously an independent advisor to a Single Family Office in London, and prior to this a co-founder and former chief operating officer of Global Partnership Family Offices, a London-based peer-to-peer networking forum for family offices.
"We are delighted to welcome John and Jonathan to the group," said Daniel Lindley, head of Northern Trusts global family & private investment offices group in Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Our clients implement sophisticated investment programs, utilise multiple asset managers, require complex reporting and often work within the framework of a family office to manage and oversee a variety of financial needs and wealth transfer strategies."
"As family office experts, we foster long term relationships with our clients by providing a range of services including global custody and reporting, trustee and fiduciary services and specialist investment advisory services. Through these strategic appointments, we will continue to be well positioned to help our clients meet their sophisticated individual requirements," added Lindley.
The Global Family and Private Investment Offices group (GFO) is a boutique practice within Northern Trusts Wealth Management business. Established more than 30 years ago, it provides customised solutions to ultra-high net worth families, family offices and family foundations.
