Information and Data Security

How Northern Trust Protects Your Data

We work hard to protect your information. This includes utilizing a variety of technical and procedural controls to mitigate existing technology risks and proactively address emerging threats. Key technology controls are identified, prioritized, monitored and tested to help configure our networks and applications.

Your security and privacy are important to us.

Stay Vigilant Against Fraud and Scams

Scammers may use tactics such as unsolicited messages on mobile phones, third party social media or messaging apps, phishing emails, cold calling or fake websites to try and entice you to invest in false products that feature Northern Trust's name or logo. They may also impersonate employees of Northern Trust or send users to “clone websites” that are not connected to Northern Trust.

Northern Trust does not conduct any business via third party apps such as WhatsApp, Linkedin, Telegram, WeChat, Instagram or Facebook, and will never ask you to share sensitive information via email, text, or third-party apps. If you are dealing with someone purporting to be from Northern Trust on any such platform, it is not legitimate.

    What not to do:

    • Do not share any personal information (telephone, e-mail, identity documents, bank details, IBAN, proof of address, etc.) with anyone whose identity you can’t confirm
    • Do not respond to unsolicited communications
    • Do not make a payment until you have verified the identity of the person or entity and confirmed they are authorized

If you believe you may have been a victim of a scam:

    • Stop sending money and immediately contact your bank
    • Immediately report the incident to law enforcement nearest you
    • Immediately report the incident to the financial regulator in your country

Your vigilance is essential to protecting your assets and personal information. For additional guidance, read more about staying vigilant against scams.
