Tournament net proceeds support Boston area non-profits.

As title sponsor, Northern Trust’s partnership with the PGA TOUR extends our 130-year tradition of supporting the communities where we live and work. During these challenging times, meeting our communities’ needs has never been more urgent.

Each year, the proceeds from THE NORTHERN TRUST tournament are distributed to numerous worthy local charities – nearly $6 million in total over the past three years alone. These funds support organizations that strengthen vital community resources including after-school programs and healthcare services.

In response to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, Northern Trust and the PGA TOUR teamed up to introduce The Northern Trust Charity Challenge to further expand the philanthropic focus of the tournament. This year, the tournament not only allocated its net proceeds to local charities, but  hosted this special event to generate additional funds. On Wednesday, August 19, four of the TOUR’s best played a friendly nine-hole charity exhibition, raising funds for Boston-area charities such as the Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester and the Red Sox Scholars Program.

During the Charity Challenge, Northern Trust also sponsored a best drive and closest-to-the-hole competition that will provide an additional $75,000 donations to both the Greater Boston Food Bank and the United Way of Massachusetts and Merrimack Valley. These organizations are providing food, financial assistance and other COVID-19 relief efforts to meet a demand that continues to increase.

How the Charity Challenge Aligns with Northern Trust’s Global Philanthropic Mission

Our sponsorship of THE NORTHERN TRUST aligns with our mission to be our clients' most trusted financial partner and to lead as a socially responsible company. As world citizens, we recognize the need to advance long-term educational, cultural and social welfare of our communities. We seek to do business and support charitable efforts with integrity.

Our donations to both the Greater Boston Food Bank and the United Way of Massachusetts and Merrimack Valley connect with our broader efforts to assist underserved communities hard-hit by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These efforts include our commitment to provide US$20 million to bridge the opportunity gap in our local communities around the world and US$3 million to support organizations specifically serving those directly affected by COVID-19, including frontline workers and families struggling to make ends meet.
