New to Northern Funds
Open a New Account
You may open an account or add to an existing account directly with Northern Funds or through Northern Trust and certain other institutions. If you have any questions, call the Northern Funds Center at 800-595-9111.
Minimum Investments
- Minimum initial investment: $2,500 ($500 for an IRA)
- Automatic Investment Plan: minimum initial investment $250
- Additional purchases: $50 minimum, except for reinvestments of distributions, which have no minimum
- Exchanges: $2,500 minimum for new accounts, $1,000 minimum for exchanges between existing accounts
Invest directly with Northern Funds by:
To open a new account:
- Read the Prospectus carefully
- Complete and sign a New Account Application
- Enclose a check payable to Northern Funds
- If you are investing on behalf of a corporation or other entity, your New Account Application must be accompanied by a corporate resolution, certification or other evidence of authority
- Mail your check, corporate resolution if needed and completed New

All checks must be payable in U.S. dollars and drawn on a bank located in the United States. Cash, traveler's checks, third-party checks and money orders are not accepted.
Automatic Investment
You can establish an account with a minimum investment of $250, rather than $2,500, by establishing an Automatic Investment Plan of at least $50 per month.
To open a new account:
- Read the Prospectus carefully
- Complete a New Account Application, including the Automatic Investment Plan section
- Send it, along with a check, to:

If you discontinue participation in the Plan, the Funds reserve the right to redeem your account involuntarily, upon 30 days written notice, if the account's net asset value is $1,000 or less. Involuntary redemptions will not be made if the value of shares in an account falls below the minimum amount solely because of a decline in the Fund's net asset value.
Payroll or Government Direct Deposit
You can have your payroll or government check, including Social Security checks, deposited directly into your Northern Funds account.
To open a new account:
- You must first open a new account with the investment minimum before establishing payroll or government direct deposit. See the instructions for opening a new account by mail above.
- Once your account has been established, follow the instructions for adding to an existing account by payroll or government direct deposit.
Dividend/Capital Gain Reinvestment
You can have your dividend and capital gain distributions automatically reinvested in another Northern Fund.
To open a new account:
- Complete a New Account Application for the account you'll be investing into and a Automatic Investment Plan Form for the account you're having distributions made from.
- The new account must meet the initial minimum investment ($2,500, or $500 for IRAs)
- Enclose a check payable to Northern Funds
- If you are investing on behalf of a corporation or other entity, your New Account Application must be accompanied by a corporate resolution, certification or other evidence of authority
- Mail your check, corporate resolution if needed and completed New
