Aengus Hallinan
Chief Risk Officer
Aengus Hallinan is an executive vice president and chief risk officer of Northern Trust with responsibility for overseeing risk management policies, framework, strategy and programs to ensure the company operates within its risk appetite and effectively manages financial and non-financial risks in compliance with global regulatory requirements.
Aengus joined Northern Trust in May 2025, bringing with him substantial risk management experience. He previously held senior risk management leadership positions at both Bank of New York (BNY) and Credit Suisse. Most recently, he was a managing director and chief risk officer for the Securities Services and Digital businesses at BNY. He also had risk oversight for BNY’s artificial intelligence hub, growth ventures and strategic partnerships. During his five-year tenure at BNY, Aengus also served as chief operational risk officer, chief technology risk officer and head of enterprise-wide risk management
Before BNY, Aengus was a managing director and global head of Operational Risk Management & Business Continuity Management at Credit Suisse, based in New York.
Prior to this, Aengus spent nearly two decades with UBS Investment Bank, most recently as managing director and chief operating officer of Global Equity Derivatives & Synthetic Equities.
Aengus is an Irish national and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from University College Cork in Ireland. He has extensive international experience. He has been based in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York and now Chicago and brings a unique, global perspective and diverse experience to his role as chief risk officer for Northern Trust. He and his team are focused on ensuring Northern Trust’s continued safety and soundness through a holistic, proactive approach to risk management.
