Northern Trust has received an Outstanding rating on Community Reinvestment Act exams since 1997.

The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977 encourages depository institutions like us to demonstrate our efforts to serve the credit needs of the surrounding communities in which we offer banking services, especially low- or moderate-income neighborhoods, families and individuals.

We are then evaluated on how well we are able to demonstrate our understanding of the credit needs of our communities and are actively involved in meeting those needs through investments, loans, grants and services.

The CRA Public File consists of information about the communities where the institution conducts business (also known as Assessment Areas), the community development activities in those areas, and other information that is required by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
