Diversity Project

Northern Trust is a founding member Nicsa's Diversity Project in the United States and a member of the Diversity Project in the United Kingdom. Diversity Project is a cross-company, industry initiative which seeks to drive measurable change for member firms, and for the global asset management industry as a whole. Its mission is to promote a diverse and inclusive asset management industry with the right talent to deliver the best possible results for clients, to reflect society, and to ensure long-term business sustainability. Teresa Parker, President – Europe, Middle East and Africa, serves on the CEO Advisory Council for Diversity Project United Kingdom.

Armed Forces Covenant (United Kingdom)

As a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, Northern Trust has publicly pledged its support for existing or prospective employees who are veterans (including those who are wounded or sick), reservists, cadet instructors and military spouses or partners. We are committed to providing them with job opportunities. In July 2020, the UK Ministry of Defence awarded us with the Gold award on the scheme for our commitment to veterans.

Women in Finance Charter (United Kingdom)

Northern Trust is a signatory to the Women in Finance Charter (“the Charter”). Established by the HM Treasury in the United Kingdom (UK), the Charter aims to bring companies together to work to build a balanced and fair financial services industry.

Teresa Parker, Northern Trust's president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, champions this Charter and our wide-ranging diversity efforts in the UK. We take great pride in aligning ourselves with this important initiative and believe that cross-industry efforts such as this are of vital importance in helping our industry's success.

When we signed up to the Charter in May 2017 we had 31% female representation in senior management in the UK and set ourselves the goal of reaching 35% by December 2020. We reached that goal one year ahead of schedule. In November 2020 we announced a renewed goal of reaching 38% female representation in senior management roles by December 2023. As of September 2022 we have 37% female representation in senior management and are on track to meet our goal.

Women in Finance Charter (Ireland)

In May 2022, we signed up to the Irish Women in Finance Charter. This is a collaboration between industry and Government under the Ireland for Finance strategy, the government's blueprint for the development of the international financial services sector. Diversity is a key theme of the strategy. We have set ourselves a goal of improving female representation at senior levels from 44% to 48% by December 2025.
