Describe your role at Northern Trust. Explain in your own words what your position is and the work you do.

I am the Head of Operations for Investment Operations within Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) India & I lead a team of 100+ professionals & part of Global Middle Office that consists of 3 practices: Client Administration, Investment Administration & Portfolio Administration. We have a global alignment & engagement & our key objective is to run Invest Operations with transparency, governance & control.

Describe your team – who’s part of your team, where are they located, what diversity of perspective do the team members bring to the work of your group?

We are a team of 100+ professionals across levels & all in Bangalore, India. We have a wide range of skills, hands on experiences & different viewpoints which makes our team so strong and effective.

Take us through how you ended up at Northern? What brought you here?

Joined Northern Trust from JP Morgan & earlier worked with Lehman Brothers, Hewlett Packard & Ocwen. I felt like I needed a change & this brought me here, even at Northern Trust during these 14 years I have moved across business units like Asset Servicing, Asset Management & functions like IOO, Asset & Pricing Services, Securities Lending, Financial Reporting.

What are you most proud of in your career at Northern Trust so far?

A couple stand out, changes that I made by moving across teams, holding multiple leadership roles & talent development positions and running successful business operations.

What’s a typical “day-in-the-life” at Northern Trust look like for you?

Working with and engaging with partners primarily within my team & across Northern Trust Bangalore wherever possible. Succeeding in operation management is always about balancing your instincts, judgement and timing.

What do you like best about working at Northern Trust?

When I joined I quickly found that access to senior leadership was evident and a strong element to life at Northern Trust.

How has Northern Trust supported your career objectives / development?

Mentoring opportunities here played a key role & had some great mentors over the years. Secondly, our extensive internal career path opportunities.

What’s unique about Northern Trust’s culture that enables you to create, innovate, make an impact or lead effectively?

The space and autonomy that I have received from my leaders enables me to lead effectively. Probably the two things that differentiate us at least from my point of view is our open door policy is always followed & our philanthropy efforts to society.

How do you create a balance between work and home?

Time Management is my strength and an underrated skill & I have mastered that over the years.
