Kal Grant

As a Senior Vice President and a Senior Wealth Advisor, Kal leads the process with clients to achieve a mutual understanding of client’s family, business, and financial goals. She then works alongside the clients and their advisors to help develop a strategic plan which integrates the client’s financial, estate, tax and philanthropic considerations and preferences and provides tailored solutions to achieve their goals.

Prior to joining Northern Trust, Kal was CEO and General Counsel for a single-family office in San Antonio, overseeing the financial and legal affairs of the office and the family across multiple domestic and international jurisdictions. Prior to working for the family office, Kal was a managing director with Tolleson Wealth Management, where she was the estate and trust specialist and head of philanthropy services, and with J.P. Morgan Private Bank, where she was a wealth advisor and a regional estate settlement manager. Kal has practiced trust and estate law as a partner with Thompson & Knight and Jackson Walker LLP. Kal began her legal career with McAfee & Taft in Oklahoma City and her accounting career with Arthur Andersen.

Kal is a board member of Rise Recovery in San Antonio, where she also serves on the Governance and Development Committees. She is a member of the SMU Planned Giving Advisory Council and the Communities Foundation of Texas Advisory Council.

2024

Kal graduated as a President’s Scholar with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Southern Methodist University. She earned a Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Texas Tech University and a Master of Laws in taxation from Southern Methodist University. Kal has been admitted to the State Bars of Texas and Oklahoma.

Kal has published articles in Tax Notes and Bloomberg Tax, and has been quoted in the New York Times, Dow Jones, and Private Wealth Magazine.
