Simon joined Northern Trust in February 2022, where he holds the position of Global Head of Banking & Markets Compliance. The Global Banking & Markets Compliance team provides advisory, monitoring and surveillance for Northern Trust’s Banking & Markets business. The team is comprised of subject matter experts across brokerage, global FX and securities finance with a mix of ex-regulators and industry backgrounds and covers five locations globally.

Simon frequently represents Northern Trust at external events and conferences, offering insight on market developments in the compliance space.

Prior to joining Northern Trust, Simon spent eight years at Commerzbank where he was responsible for regulatory compliance in the Equity Markets and Commodities business. This included the implementation of MiFID II, and items such as the creation of a regulatory framework for a large systematic internaliser as well as creation of product governance framework for a large structured products business. He was also involved in the sale and subsequent transfer of a global equities business to the purchaser, a large investment bank, taking responsibility for the regulatory compliance of that transfer.

Earlier in his career, Simon worked for four years at Barclays Capital and, prior to that, four years at BDO Stoy Hayward, a firm of chartered accountants, where he worked in their Forensic Services team.

Simon has an undergraduate and masters degree in Law from Lancaster University and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales.
