Northern Trust delivered strong third quarter results with solid revenue growth across trust fees, capital markets and net interest income. ROE was at the high end of our target range, while lending and balance sheet measures remained sound. Continued expense discipline contributed to meaningful pre-tax margin expansion, double digit EPS growth and our fifth consecutive quarter of positive operating leverage and year-over-year improvement in our expense-to-trust fee ratio, excluding notables.
We recently took home top honors in three categories from Professional Wealth Management and The Banker magazines, publications of the Financial Times Group.With this latest recognition, we became a 14-time winner of “Best Private Bank in the U.S.,” underscoring our leadership in wealth management and enduring commitment to clients. The Global Private Banking Awards, created in 2009, attracted nearly 350 submissions from more than 100 banks worldwide.
We rang the Opening Bell at Nasdaq Exchange in celebration of the launch of our Northern Trust Tax-Exempt Bond ETF Suite.
