Brian D. Hughes

Brian is President of Northern Trust – State of Michigan. He is responsible for leading the East and West Michigan offices, providing banking and wealth management services to successful individuals, families, privately held businesses and institutions. Brian has more than 30 years of investment and trust experience.

Prior to re-joining Northern Trust, Brian was a Senior Portfolio Manager for U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management where he was a member of the firm’s Asset Allocation committee. Prior to U.S. Trust, Brian was employed by UBS (formerly Brinson Partners) in Chicago. In his capacity at both UBS and NT, Brian worked with the bank’s global central bank, sovereign wealth fund, NGO and non-profit client relationships.

Brian serves as an acting member of the United Way for SE Michigan Investment Committee and a former Steelcase Foundation investment committee voting member. Brian has lived in the state of Michigan for over 40 years. He has a home in downtown Detroit and a home in Grand Rapids. Brian has deep local ties to multi-generational families and institutions throughout the entire state of Michigan. He also coached Varsity soccer at Grand Rapids Catholic Central from 2010 to 2017.
