U.S. private equity deal activity once again reached new heights in 2021. Private business investments exceeded $1.2 trillion for the year, a steep increase from 2020 and a more than 50% increase from the previous annual record.
Factors contributing to the significant uptick included attractive debt financing, willing sellers looking to avoid looming tax hikes, and private equity firms eager to return to the market after a slowdown the prior year.
PE Deal Activity
Despite rate hikes and geopolitical uncertainty, many experts expect elevated levels of deal activity to continue in 2022. Analysts at PitchBook, for instance, are forecasting that mega-funds will raise $250 billion over the course of the year.
