Wendy Maveety is a Senior Vice President and Director of Product Operations on the Global Product Team within Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM). Her role includes establishing and governing a robust, systematic framework for best practices in how we evaluate new initiatives and continuously streamline our existing Global Product platform. Wendy joined Northern Trust in 2000 and has established a track record of excellence in driving complex business initiatives to fruition. She has stayed with Northern Trust because we have supported her career development and aspirations through internal moves and promotions.

Describe your role at Northern Trust

I work in NTAM as a Global Product as Director of Product Operations where I focus on Excellence in Execution for the Global Product organization and serve to enhance the foundational capabilities of translating our strategic product roadmap into implementation of new product launches, enhancements and lifecycle management.

Describe your team

We have a global team of about 50 across Global Product. Teammates are located across multiple offices including Tempe, AZ; Chicago, IL; Dublin, Ireland; and London, United Kingdom.

Take us through how you ended up at Northern Trust

I came to Northern Trust right after I finished at Fox College. Fox College had a 100% job placement record and gave me the opportunity to interview with Northern Trust.

I started in the Operations area and was able to experience many operational roles to learn more about the different aspects of the Northern Trust business and about 8 years later I landed in project management. I spent the next 10 years in project management and worked on many important NTAM initiatives and more recently the NTAM Global Product space.

What are you most proud of in your career at Northern Trust so far?

Being able to build up my leadership and execution skills where the team is able to count on me.

What does a typical “day-in-the-life” at Northern Trust look like for you?

The majority of the time, no day is the same as the previous, there is always some aspect that needs my attention. I get brought into different issues that arise within my remit. Working towards launching different strategies or products within various parts of NTAM always has many moving parts.

When did you realize that Northern Trust was a good fit for your career?

I realized Northern Trust was a good fit for me when I was able to move with ease to a new internal role which supported my career development and aspirations.

What has surprised you most about life at Northern Trust so far?

For me finding great mentors and genuine friendships has been the most pleasing of my time here thus far.

How do you create a balance between work and home?

Setting boundaries for myself within my work life has helped and added to that constant and consistent communication with my manager has helped me manage my workload and my time.

What would you say to someone considering a career at Northern Trust? 

Northern Trust is definitely a great place to work and has an amazing culture which makes everyone welcome and included.

What advice would you give to new joiners at Northern Trust?

Learn as many things as you can and network with different partners within different areas of the organization will always stand to you.
